Dream come true? Well that was what i thought and still think.
Summer 2013 started early for me, end of May and i had to much free time on my hands. Everybody knows, if you wanna make it in the fashion industry experience is the most important factor. So, i created a unique resume and a great cover letter and emailed it to Marie Claire. Two days later i got a response.
"What a nice enthusiastic email you send, would you like to come on a interview". - i gasped!
Then panic stroke, what do you wear to an interview like this. I took pictures of different outfits and forwarded it to my friends. Finally, i wore a black jeans, HEELS!!!! top yellow, white black stripes and bright blue blazer. I wanted to look creative and different as my skills are as well.
We chatted for an hour about all kind of things and i felt really good. Next day i got a phone call from the fashion editor in chief. I GOT THE JOB! well internship but it feels like i got a job for 6 months.
The first two days was learning a lot. Thank god i am a fast learner and i remember everything, well almost everything. The week after i was on my own basically, the other intern was on holiday, and i had to research images for pages already by myself. This was kinda scary, as i had to present it to the fashion editor in chief. This went well and she likes my ideas.
I am actually flabbergasted that they give us so much freedom and independency. It is not like The Devil Wears Prada or The intern, which was actually filmed in Marie Claire US, the people working for Marie Claire NL are actually really sweet, and helpful.
A lot of my friends asked me how did you get the internship, and i would just briefly say ow i just applied. They told me, NO, you have something special that’s why you were hired and i would just laugh and think noowayy!!. Today, i actually spoke to the person who handles all applications, and she told me she really liked my application and that they get a lotttttt of applications. Then and there i though there is a reason why i am selected and hired to intern and yes i am special. This is something that i never believed of myself, and though i was just like everybody else. Now i can proudly say i am different, i am great in what i do, i am creative!
I am now on my second week and will be updating how my internship goes.
